Saturday was already wild and the game last night just took it to another level. The Dallas Wings got their first road win of the season, but it’s going to have some costly repercussions. There were six players ejected from the game last night after a tussle took place: Brittney Griner, Diana Taurasi, Briann January, Kristine Anigwe, Kayla Thornton and Kaela Davis. I do not believe the suspensions should go beyond Griner, Anigwe and Thornton.
As for the other three players that left the bench, the ejections were punishment enough. I am interested in seeing what the league will do and how long it will take. Losing Griner will be a huge loss for the Mercury as they are fighting for playoff positioning. They only have a 2.5 game cushion over the Liberty for that final spot.
Dallas was already on the outside looking in and with the win they are still 4.5 games back from the 8th seed. The schedule will on get tougher for the Wings as they will be facing teams that are trying to position avoid the single elimination rounds in the playoffs. Even, if the Wings were to lose Thornton for just one game it would be a big loss as she is the team’s best defender. Thornton can shut ANYONE down and the Wings will need that. However, it will be an opportunity for someone else to step up and I believe they will make it happen.
Three of their next five will be at home. Los Angeles is now at full strength and have looked really good! There is a chance that Dallas could sneak one in Connecticut, but the Lynx will be a tough out as well. If the Wings want a shot at the playoffs all five will have to be won. Things are about to get intense all around the league.
I just wish that there could be a new set of refs because the officiating has been atrocious this season. I cannot shake this feeling that it is only going to get worse and ruin chances for a team to win, similar to what took place in the NFC Championship in the NFL. I really hope I am wrong and that it is just my skepticism getting the best of me.
There has been a lot of talk about the WNBA this week, mostly from a negative perspective. The #RumbleAtTheResort made the media pay attention which is unnerving because they BARELY cover the league when all of the good things are happening. They only show these women in a negative light and it gets all of the ass hats chattering. It was the same when 2k released the promo about the WNBA being added to the game. The WNBA was trending all day so keep talking, but the disrespect has got to chill. It’s simple, if you do not like the WNBA do not watch and don’t play them in 2k. It makes no sense that so much time is put into trashing these women, but whatevs.
I cannot wait to get into this on the Soaring Wings Show this week with my girl @DorothyJGentry, be sure to subscribe and listen here. S/O to the W-insidr network for hosting the show. It has been an awesome learning experience.
Anyway I am loving all of the reaction from #WNBATwitter. Check out my favorite follows for their reactions to last night’s battle. Also, let me hear your thoughts @WNBALove on Twitter. I am also trying to get my Instagram going so give me a follow there @WNBA_Love.
